Foreign experts hired to combat locust in Kenya

Kenya's government has drawn foreign experts to fight the desert locust invasion that has so far affected 17 districts. This is reported by Daily Monitor Uganda. Kenya is not a country [that is facing an invasion] of desert locusts, and we don 't have much experience, so we need partners with the necessary experience of dealing with this species. That's why we are joining forces, said David Mwangi, head of plant protection at Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture. According to him, a Moroccan specialist joined the National Youth Service (NYS) personnel training team for ground control of locust. Mwangi said they would use hand spray insecticides and curtain equipment. At the same time, he said, aerial spraying of insecticides would also continue. According to him, the Government of Kenya has secured the support of 120 locust consulting providers and 600 New York State troops are expected to join them. Meanwhile, experts reported that Kenya was facing a humanitarian crisis related to the reproduction and spread of desert locusts. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the locust invasion of the East African region could turn into a full-scale crisis in a few weeks.
