New Zealand announces postponement of general parliamentary elections

The announcement of the postponement of the general parliamentary elections was made by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. This was reported on August 17 by The New Zealand Herald. The head of government explained that the decision was made after discussion with other politicians in connection with new outbreaks of coronavirus infection in the country. General parliamentary elections were postponed from September 19 to October 17. An outbreak of coronavirus infection was recorded in New Zealand on August 11. Prior to this, no cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the country for 102 days. Sanitary and epidemiological restrictions were again introduced in the country, and the Prime Minister announced a decision to postpone the dissolution of parliament until August 17 before the general election.
