In Australia, 80 whales saved from death

Australian officials said they managed to save 88 grands, or black whales, after a mass release of animals in shallow water off the coast of Tasmania, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing local media. Another 20 whales are waiting for rescue. Nick Deca, the head of the rescue operation, said that as long as there is a chance to save live whales, the group will not give up. Biologist Chris Carlyon said the team worked 12 hours a day. In total, from September 21 to 24, about 500 whales jumped ashore. And hundreds of tons of carcasses have yet to be removed from the shore. Cleaning will begin on September 25 and will probably last several days. The reason why so many whales ran aground remains a mystery. According to one theory, a group of whales made a navigation error. According to another version, whales followed sick individuals. Close-scale emissions of whales in Australia occurred in 1996 (320 whales) and 1935 (294 whales).
